As the founder of Bittany, my passion for sustainable fashion and positive impact extends beyond the business realm. Volunteering has always held a special place in my heart, and this past month, I had the privilege of supporting adults by facilitating sewing and textile classes at Mustard Tree. Through these classes, I had the opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives and foster a sense of fulfillment and purpose.
Volunteering in various capacities since 2012, my desire to give back to the community led me to Mustard Tree after moving to the UK. Combining my love for sustainable fashion with my compassion for others, the textile classes became a platform to teach essential skills such as repairing, repurposing, and altering clothes. Witnessing the joy and pride on the faces of participants when they completed a project was truly rewarding.
Through volunteering, I not only gained new skills and experiences but also became more emotionally intelligent and self-aware. Building meaningful connections with others, I learned the importance of compassion and asking for help when needed. Volunteering has been a transformative experience, helping me become a better version of myself.
The joy and sense of accomplishment I experience through volunteering inspire me to continue making a difference. To anyone considering volunteering, I encourage you to embrace this opportunity to give back, step outside your comfort zone, and experience personal and professional growth.
One of my favourite memories from volunteering is witnessing the impact of the classes on participants' lives. From inspiring someone to consider a career in fashion to empowering others to make positive changes in their communities, the skills learned in the classes have far-reaching effects.
When I think of volunteering, the song "We Are the World" by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie comes to mind. The lyrics resonate with the idea that together, through our collective efforts, we can create a brighter future for those in need.
As I continue my journey as a founder, entrepreneur, and volunteer, I remain dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of others, one stitch at a time.
